Wben the soundtrack list was first revealed I was skeptical about a few of the choices. I literally said WTF when I saw Kid Cudi on there. I take it all back. With the wide array of artists it could have sounded horrible, but it doesn't. All of the tracks tie in very well with the general atmosphere and themes of the novel/movie. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the album flows. Well worth the money. I have a feeling I'll be playing this on repeat for quite a while. Three more days until the world will be watching. May the odds be ever in your favor. When it comes to this soundtrack, they certainly are.

"The Hunger Games" is one of the most anticipated movies of the entire year -- and so the music is almost as anticipated.

Well, despite the presence of Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift, it's a very NON-poppy collection of songs -- it's a smooth combination of folk, rock, and country, imbued with a sense of ominous bittersweetness. There are a few rock numbers mixed in, but "The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 And Beyond" is a very quiet, haunted affair.

It kicks off with Arcade Fire's slow-blazing "Abraham's Daughter"; it really brings across a dark, desperate feeling with a girl's swirling vocals in the middle of it all, with danger roaring on every side of her. It is AWESOME.

From there, we hear a string of quieter songs -- the Secret Sisters' softly uplifting "Tomorrow Will Be Kinder"; Neko Case's rippling "Nothing To Remember"; the Civil Wars' trembling duet "Kingdom Come"; the Low Anthem's murky "Lover is Childlike"; Jayme Dee's warmly contemplative... Read more

I loved the music that was put together for this film... The Civil Wars, Taylor Swift, The Secret Sisters,ect....
What I don't like is how everyone keeps complaining about how sad or slow the music was. How it was depressing. Duh kids are forced to starve, work, then kill each other!! What would you rather the songs be LMAO, Pit-Bull, Ke$sha? Give me a break. The book was set in the mountains, movie was made right here in North Carolina, yes in the mountain... so you get Mountain music. Great soulful folk, mountain music. I loved all of the songs.... So please music editors keep up the good work on setting the tone and mood of the movie with your great pick of music combos!!!!!!! For the people who complain about the music, guess what don't listen to it!!! I for one, who was born in the apl. mountains and raised in the south have great appreciation for the style of music you picked to use in the movie that repersents our heritage and style!!!!

Rhino Records has released countless Best of collections by The Monkees. From two separate box sets, to several greatest hits collections, they have constantly repacked the band's hits. The Best of The Monkees is yet another such collection. If you are a fan of the Monkees, then there is no real need to buy this collection as you probably have the songs on several different compilations. The only reasons to get this collections is if you are a completist or you want the bonus karaoke disk that contains five songs. If you are a new fan of the band or are interested in sampling their music, then this set is a generous collection of twenty-five songs. The album includes all the Monkees' essential tracks including the mega-hits like "I'm A Believer", "Last Train To Clarksville", "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Daydream Believer", album tracks like "Mary, Mary", "You Just May Be The One", "For Pete's Sake" and "What Am I Doing Hangin' `Round" and lesser known tracks like "Listen To The... 5.0 out of 5 stars Monkees collection gets it right, January 31, 2004

This review is from: Best of the Monkees (Audio CD)
It has been almost 20 years since Rhino Records reissued the original Monkees albums on vinyl. Immediately after this occurrence, the Monkees reunited for their extremely successful 20th anniversary reunion tour. Ten years after that tour, Rhino had given us a box set, rarities collections, a live recording, and the original albums now on compact disc, digitally remastered with bonus tracks. And ever since the Monkees originally disbanded in 1970, there have been numerous 'greatest hits' compilations put on the market. If you are deciding which one to purchase, I would go with this one, slightly favoring it over 1995's "Greatest Hits" (the flower cover).

Why? This CD prominently features selections of the Monkees' finest recorded output that the other disc omits. Songs like "You Just May Be the One" and "For Pete's Sake" from HEADQUARTERS are here, and overall this collection highlights more the music the Monkees made together as a functioning studio unit---and the quality... 5.0 out of 5 stars Give these guys more respect!, March 31, 2004

This review is from: Best of the Monkees (Audio CD)
It seems fitting that the first time I heard a Monkees song ("Last Train to Clarksville") was on the way to the Beatles last concert in Detroit on their last tour anywhere in August, 1966.

I remember riding with my big brother on I-94, playing around with radio stations, then hearing that distinctive intro to "Clarksville" on guitar. I dug it right away. I was vaguely aware that NBC was premiering a new series on a rock group, loosely based on the Beatles, to air in the Fall. I thought to myself that if "Clarksville" was any indication of the music we could expect from this prefab group, it should be a pretty good show.

Little did I know, on that trip to see the Fab Four, that they would play their last public appearance in August, 1966. The Beatles had soured on trekking around the globe playing music that couldn't be heard. They were growing restless with their lack of independence and needed a chance to all do some individual soul... Read more

We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things

Jason Mraz’s first set of all-new material in nearly three years, WE SING. WE DANCE. WE STEAL THINGS. sees Mraz continuing to tread his own distinctive artistic path, melding a variegated musical tapestry with passionate, personal lyricism. Among the highlights are collaborations with British tunesmith James Morrison and singer/ songwriter Colbie Caillat.

"I’m Yours," the album’s first single, was chosen due to the undeniable fan response to the song. A demo version of "I’m Yours" originally appeared on a limited release bonus EP Mraz put out with his last album. Today the song is an online sensation, with hundreds of usergenerated videos from more than 25 different countries now appearing on YouTube. Jason will be hitting the road this April on the "Music, Magic & Make Peace Tour".

      Amazon.co.uk

Since 2002’s jaunty Waiting for My Rocket to Come, Jason Mraz has developed into a more mature, well-rounded pop artist. We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things is his most multi-dimensional work yet, covering everything from groove-based material to ballads. While tracks such as "Make It Mine" and "Butterfly" refer back to the catchy style of previous albums, there are many other styles and textures on display here. His duet with Colbie Caillat, "Lucky," for example, explores his folkish, acoustic side, as does the compelling "Details in the Fabric," both of which are excellent songs. Mraz gets a little more experimental on "Coyotes," which toys with a clubby electronica and strangely seems to work, and on "The Dynamo of Volition" for which he employs a hectic, rapping-style of vocal over a typically contagious rhythm. His ballads, such as "Love For A Child", "If It Kills Me" and "Beautiful Mess" (these last two saved for the end) show a more sensitive side and even when his lyrics are occasionally clumsy, Mraz manages to make his point in an emotive way. Easy-going and sunny, but with laudable elements of depth and innovation, this is Mraz at his best so far.--Danny McKenna

Me (48) and my husband (69) were pulling into our driveway when the song "I'm Yours" came on the radio. We stayed in the car, listened to the song and felt happy. I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and this song let me forget for a few minutes. We knew we had to have the whole album and have loved every song on it! I think I want "I'm Yours" playing as they wheel me into surgery. It puts me in a happy place! Thank You Jason for such a wonderful, eclectic album and introducing us to some new music (we've been stuck in a 1970's and earlier time frame)!

        Best to you,
        Angel

        5.0 out of 5 stars Jason Mraz (n.): The Singer/Songwriter of Today's Generation, May 13, 2008
This review is from: We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things (Audio CD)
From the first track to last Jason Mraz dazzles, perplexes and scintillates on his high-octane 3rd full-length studio album "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things." His witty, highly individual lyrical style and organic, powerful backing band transform these songs into four minute detours into the mind of the most underrated singer/songwriter of the 2000s.

Lead single "I'm Yours" finally lands on its feet after many years in Mraz's setlists with its mellow, Hawaiian grooves, complete with visions of obligatory surfers and pineapple drinks in the background. It's just a slice of what "We Sing..." has to offer, however. "Lucky" is a sparse, melodic duet with Colbie Callait that transitions aptly out of "I'm Yours," while "Make It Mine" and "Live High" are classic Mraz with feel-good, enrapturing melodies designed to sweep listeners clean off their feet. "Make It Mine" is particularly upbeat, full of hand-claps and lush, horn-laden instrumentation. It should be a single, and if... Read more

I have loved Jason Mraz since he began and he has never failed to please. This album is similar to Waiting for My Rocket To Come (in my view) and not quite as peppy as Mr. A-Z. I love his fast, wordy, intelligent songs. (I still have Geek in the Pink as my ringer on my phone). This album seemed a bit slower paced, but I love his voice and his jazzy twang. I never liked scat until I heard Jason do it.

He has a skill with words beyond any artist I have ever heard. Read his journal on his website and you will be amazed. I think he is one of those unassuming but highly intelligent people.

We Sing is an album I could put on while reading or entertaining guests. Not too overpowering, but not total background music either. I need to listen to it a few more times to really get the "feel" for it, but I had to do that with WFMRTC as well, and now I love every track except the last two.

I saw Jason perform at the PF Chang's Rock N Roll Marathon in Tempe, AZ... Read more
